From hands-on bread instruction at The Bertinet Kitchen Cookery School to refined afternoon tea baking and artisan-led countryside experiences, each day is thoughtfully designed to inspire creativity and connection. Wander through stone villages, enjoy unhurried time in historic Bath, and experience the elegance of a private tour and Champagne afternoon tea in the dining room at Highclere Castle, home to Downton Abbey.

With visits to Daylesford Organic Farm and intimate workshops throughout the week, this retreat invites you to slow down, savor the rhythms of English country life, and deepen your baking craft in beautiful surroundings.

Accommodations are provided at two exceptional five-star properties—Lucknam Park and Estelle Manor—offering serene luxury and a seamless home base throughout the journey.

This retreat is limited to 20 bakers and is designed for those who love baking, beauty, and thoughtful travel.

Each registered baking participant will receive a one-year subscription to Bake from Scratch. If you’re already a subscriber, you may extend your subscription or gift it to someone who loves baking.

Tuesday, September 15

Arrive in England at your leisure, where private transportation will be provided from London Heathrow (LHR) to the countryside.

In the evening, gather with fellow guests at the hotel for a welcome reception—an elegant beginning to a week of baking, connection, and indulgence in the Cotswolds.

Wednesday, September 16

We’ll divide into two groups for the day’s experiences.

One group will enjoy a hands-on bread baking session at The Bertinet Kitchen Cookery School in Bath, learning foundational techniques in one of the UK’s most respected baking schools.

The other group will explore the enchanting village of Castle Combe, stop into a local bakery, and enjoy leisurely time in the historic city of Bath, known for its Georgian architecture and timeless charm.

Thursday, September 17

Groups will switch experiences today, ensuring every guest enjoys both the immersive bread baking class and the cultural excursion through Castle Combe and Bath.

Friday, September 18

This morning brings a beautifully curated class at The Foodworks Cookery School, where baking and seasonal English flavors take center stage.

Afterward, we’ll travel onward to our next luxurious countryside retreat for the remainder of the retreat.

Saturday, September 19

Today we’ll step into English grandeur with a private guided visit to Highclere Castle, one of the country’s most iconic estates and home to Downton Abbey.

Following the tour, enjoy an exclusive afternoon tea experience in the castle’s dining room, where Downton’s Crawley family dined and welcomed guests. The day continues with a charming village visit before returning to relax at Estelle Manor for the evening.

Sunday, September 20

We’ll divide into two groups for a quintessential day in the Cotswolds.

One group will spend the day at Daylesford Organic Farm, enjoying a baking class and a leisurely lunch at one of England’s most beloved culinary destinations.

The other group will enjoy an afternoon tea baking class at the Cotswolds Baking Workshop, and then visit local artisans at Whichford Pottery, Cotswold Knit Studio, and the Cotswolds Distillery.

In the evening, we’ll gather for a traditional Sunday roast—an endearing English countryside ritual.

Groups will switch experiences, ensuring every guest enjoys both the Daylesford culinary day and the afternoon tea baking workshop.

Tuesday, September 22

Depart on your own, with a private transfer arranged for you to Heathrow Airport (LHR).

You’ll fly into London’s Heathrow Airport (LHR), which is serviced from most major hubs in the United States.

Private round-trip airport transportation is included, along with transportation to and from all scheduled retreat experiences throughout the week.

All bookings for this retreat are final and nonrefundable under all circumstances. For this reason, we strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance that covers trip cancellation, interruption, illness, and other unexpected events. You agree that you will not initiate a charge-back or payment dispute for amounts properly charged in accordance with this policy.

If you choose not to purchase travel insurance, you understand and agree that you are responsible for all costs or losses related to trip interruptions.

Changes, Cancellations & Unforeseen Events

We are not responsible for expenses related to travel delays, cancellations, illness, injury, or other events beyond our control, including but not limited to weather, government actions, and airline or transportation issues.

In the event that we must cancel this retreat due to circumstances beyond our control, our liability will be limited to a refund of amounts paid to us, or a credit toward a future retreat, at our discretion. We are not responsible for additional expenses such as airfare, lodging, or other travel costs.

Health & Travel Risks

Travel involves inherent risks, including the risk of exposure to communicable illnesses. By booking this retreat, you acknowledge these risks and agree to assume responsibility for your own health and safety during the trip.

If you become ill during the retreat, particularly with a suspected or confirmed contagious condition, the group leaders may require you to modify or end your participation if they reasonably believe your presence poses a health or safety risk to other participants. In such cases, no refund or credit will be provided. 

Program Changes

Due to circumstances beyond our control, certain activities, instructors, services, or amenities may be modified, substituted, or unavailable. Such changes do not constitute grounds for a refund, but we will work tirelessly to make sure you have the best experience possible.
